‘Married With Children’ was not the type of sitcom to be easily confused with ‘Frasier’, despite the script had all the brain-power and wit of a horny chicken nugget it ran for ten years from 1987-1997.
Actually the plot is pretty neatly summed up by this clip from ‘The Simpsons’ -
But it did have one touch of class, not every show has Frank Sinatra sing the intro.
What happened to those heavily hair-sprayed ladies and grunting men? Well you may have spotted one or two on primetime telly but others’ careers went into free fall.
Find out what they’re all up to after the jump!
Ed O’Neill – Al Bundy
With a name like O’Neill it’s not surprising that Ed’s from a strong Irish-American family. He’s 6’1 and, like his character Al Bundy, was a former highschool football star. After he was cut by the Pitsburgh Steelers he took up acting and was a social studies teacher.
He nearly had a big break playing Sam Malone in ‘Cheers’ but the part when to Ted Danson instead.
‘Married With Children’ was his first major role. During that time he also popped up in ‘Wayne’s World’ and ‘Wayne’s World 2′ as Ed, the manager at the Donut store.
More recently he’s become a leading sitcom star once again, playing Jay Prithett on ‘Modern Family’. He’s been Emmy nominated for the role.
Ed has been married to Catherine Rusoff since 1986 and they have two daughters together – oh and if he’s not intimidating enough, Ed also has a black belt in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu
Katey Sagal – Peggy Bundy
Before acting, Katey was a backing singer who performed with Bob Dylan, Bette Middler , Gene Simmons and Olivia Newton-John. Katey’s biggest role since ‘Married With Children’ ended has been voicing Leela in ‘Futurama’.

You might have also seen her as John Ritter’s wife in ’8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter’…
… or in 4 episodes of ‘Lost’, though more likely you’ve spotted her as Gemma Teller Morrow on ‘Sons of Anarchy’, a show created by her husband Kurt Sutter.
She has two children with from her second husband and a daughter with Kurt Sutter, who she married in 2004.
David Faustino – Bud Bundy
Since the show David’s taken part in ‘Celebrity Boot Camp’ and had cameo appearances on two episodes of ‘Entourage’ and something called ‘Not Another B Movie’. He voices Mako in ‘The Last Airbender’ spin-off ‘The Legend of Korra’.
He’s been married (and divorced) once, had a rap album called ‘Balistyx’ and own a club in Las Vegas. He is only 5’3 tall.
Christina Applegate – Kelly Bundy
While working on the sitcom Christina also played the lead role in ‘Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead’.
She was one of the founding members of dance-troupe ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ (before they became a girlband).
In 2002 Christina starred in a pretty full on & filthy comedy called ‘The Sweetest Thing’ with Cameron Diaz (my friend tells me this is hilarious but I keep forgetting to watch it).
You’ll remember her as Rachel’s sister Amy on ‘Friends’.
In 2004 she landed her most famous role – Veronica Corningstone in ‘Anchorman’.
She then she appeared in TV series like ‘Samantha Who?’ and left ‘Up All Night’ in 2013. She’s filming ‘Anchorman: The Legend Continues’ right now (pics here).
In 2008 she had a double mastectomy and was given the all-clear from breast cancer. She has a daughter called Sadie with her second husband Martyn LeNoble.
Amanda Bearse – Marcy D’arcy
Amanda moved into directing after the show and directed episodes of ‘Dharma & Greg’ and ‘Veronica’s Closet’.
She has two children with her partner Carrie – her decision to ‘come out’ as a lesbian made headlines in 1993.
Ted McGinley – Jefferson D’arcy
Before ‘Married With Children’, Ted starred in later episodes of ‘Happy Days’, ‘Dyntasy’ and the ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ films.
More recently he’s had parts in ‘Sports Night’ and ‘The West Wing’.
In 2006 he took part in ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and was the second contestant out.
He has two children with his wife Gigi.
