Another Disney Remake: Beautiful or Beastly?

23 years after the original came out, ‘Twilight’ director Bill Condon is going to direct a live-action version of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – spotting a pattern yet?

Ever since the financial success (but CGI mess) of Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and a competitor’s ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ the studio has begun churning out slightly darker live-action retellings of their biggest hits.  We’ve seen Angelina Jolie in ‘Maleficent’ and next we’ll see Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Cinderella starring Lily James, Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, and Helena Bonham Carter.

The rumours about who will play Belle and co haven’t started just yet – any suggestions? @showbizgeek

Fit for Size?

Here’s the first teaser trailer for Disney’s new live-action version of ‘Cinderella’.

From the teaser alone I get the impression they’re going for a much more traditional fairytale take than the slightly dark new ‘Sleeping Beauty’ adaptation ‘Maleficent’.

Lily James (Downton Abbey) plays the title role….

… joining Cate Blanchett as her evil stepmother, Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy stepmother and Richard Madden (Robb Stark from ‘Game of Thrones’) as the prince.

‘Cinderella’, directed by Kenneth Branagh, will be released on March 13, 2015 in the US, and April 3, 2015 in the UK & Ireland.

Disney On the Decks

A new Disney album is out but it’s not the soaring and simpering ballads you might expect, this one is all glitchy beats and booming base.

It’s called ‘DConstructed’ and sees some Disney favourites transformed by DJs like Avicii, Armin Van Buuren, Kaskade and U.N.K.L.E.

Disney Rocks

Ever wonder what it would sound like it Nickleback covered ‘Let It Go’ from ‘Frozen’?  Nope? Well, Jonathan Young has given the instant Disney classic an impressive rock makeover anyway.

Just one note:  Inserting ‘gentleman’ instead of ‘good girl’ doesn’t’ really work as there’s an extra syllable, why not just say ‘good guy’ if you really have to change the words?

Check out why I think Disney’s ‘Frozen’ has become a little over-rated after the jump!
